How to Pay Traffic Tickets

Online Payment

Pay your ticket online with Visa or MasterCard. No other cards work. A fee gets tacked on. You can make partial payments too if you can not pay all at once. But know this: paying online means you plead guilty. You can not fight it after that.

In-Person Payment

Go to Government Plaza, 205 Government Street, 2nd Floor. They take cash, money orders, cashier's checks, Visa, and MasterCard. No personal checks. Bring your ticket number with you. This works best if you want to ask questions first about your choices before you pay.

Mail Payment

To pay by mail, sign the guilty plea on the back of your ticket and mail it with payment to:

Mobile Municipal Court
P.O. Box 2446
Mobile, AL 36652

Use money order or cashier's check only. Include your citation number on the payment.

Payment Deadline

Pay within 7 days of getting your ticket. At the very latest, pay 24 hours before your court date. Miss that and you may have to show up in court. More fees could hit your case too. Do not wait until the last minute since things can go wrong with online payments or mail delivery.

Statewide Online System

The Alabama Online Traffic Resolution system also allows searching and paying citations from Mobile courts using your citation number and date of birth.

Fees and Fines

Traffic Violation Fines

Fines in Mobile change based on what you did. Here is what most folks pay:

Violation Typical Fine Range
Speeding (1-25 mph over) $190 - $280
Speeding (26+ mph over) $280 - $350
Running red light $180 - $250
Stop sign violation $160 - $220
Failure to yield $180 - $250
Improper lane change $150 - $200

Fines include court costs. Pay late and fees pile up. Miss court and it gets worse. DUI and reckless driving cost way more, and you have to show up in court for those.

Partial Payments

Can not pay the whole fine at once? Mobile lets you make partial payments online. Call the court to set up a plan if you need more time. They will work with you as long as you stay in touch and keep making payments. Do not just stop paying or ignore your case.

Legal Framework

Mobile Municipal Court runs under Code of Alabama Sections 12-14-1 through 12-14-70. These laws let the court hear city code and state traffic cases in Mobile.

Traffic tickets in Alabama are misdemeanors per Title 32 of the Code of Alabama. The judge can fine you up to $500. Jail can hit six months. DUI and big crimes go much higher.

Appeals go to Mobile County Circuit Court. You have 14 days to file. The appeal means a new trial where they start fresh.

Traffic court records are public records under Section 36-12-40 and can be accessed through public records requests to the court clerk's office.

Mobile County Circuit Court

Got a ticket from a county deputy or state trooper in Mobile? That goes to Mobile County District Court. The city court does not take those. Check who wrote your ticket to know where to go.
